Sarabjit attack shows UPA failure: Modi

Ahmedabad: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Thursday described the demise of death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh as an "extra-judicial killing", and accused the Indian and Pakistani governments of misleading people over the issue.

Expressing grief over Sarabjit Singh's death, Modi said that it is very sad. "May his soul rest in peace and may god give strength to his family to bear this loss," he added.

Demanding that truth on this issue should come out, Modi wrote on Twitter, "Both, the government of India and the government of Pakistan have misled people on the Sarabjit Singh issue."

"Sarabjit's extra-judicial killing is yet another grim reminder that expecting Pakistan to follow due process of law in any sphere is futile," he further wrote.

"The Centre is unable to give a strong answer to Pakistan's inhuman acts. Beheading of our soldiers and now Sarabjit's death are two recent examples," Modi tweeted.

Sarabjit died of cardiac arrest in a Pakistani hospital in the wee hours of Thursday after being comatose for nearly a week following a brutal assault by fellow inmates in a high-security Lahore jail.
