Saran new Indian envoy to Bangladesh

New Delhi, Feb 10 (IBNS) Present Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office Pankaj Saran has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh. He succeeds Rajeet Mitter.

An Indian Foreign Service officer, Saran will take up the post shortly. The position was left vacant two and half months ago.

Mitter has completed his tenure on Nov 1, 2011. He joined the office of envoy of India to Dhaka in Dec 2009.

Saran joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1982. He was involved in several Indian missions in Dhaka, Moscow, Washington, Cairo and Geneva as well as the Indian External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi.

A 1989 batch IFS officer Vikram Misri will replace Saran as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office.
