New Delhi, Aug 24 (IBNS) Reactions are pouring after the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed petitions for a CBI investigation against Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G scam citing lack of material in the case and thus bringing a huge relief to the Congress politician and the scam-embattled United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

The reactions:

Petitioner and Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy: I think this is a very bad judgement. I would file a review of the judgement. I was stopped in the middle of the arguments. The court said I did not provide evidence of a conspiracy by Chidambaram. Where did I speak about conspiracy? I talked about loss to the national exchequer. I never produced any material to back criminal intention but had focused on national loss.

Union Law Minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid: I certainly can express great satisfaction. We have been able to make our point to the court and the court accepted it. The Opposition celebrated the previous judgements (in their favour) and they must celebrate this as well. I think one should allow the Supreme Court to take a final call and you cannot always have your things the way you hoped. The Supreme Court is Supreme Court. I think they should now put an end to this matter. They should stop flogging a dead horse.

Congress leader and Minister of State in Prime Minister´s Office V Narayanasamy: We had all along maintained that Chidambaram was innocent. Chidambaram had nothing to do with 2G. There was no criminality on his part and as the finance minister he had done his job.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi : I will comment in detail only after reading the complete judgement. There is no reason for the government to be very happy because it is owing to them the corruption happened. There was a loot of public money. The government is responsible for the scam. We will continue to raise 2G scam along with coal scam. Even if someone has got clean chit on a technical reason, it does not exonerate the government.

Senior advocate and BJP leader Mahesh Jethmalini: At least for the time being one has to say that this is the end of the matter so far Chidambaram´s involvement in the 2G scam is concerned. That does not mean there cannot be any evidence in future. The trail of money might Mr Chidambaram stands acquitted and exonerated of the charges.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman: We respect the judgement but Chidambaram cannot escape the moral and political culpability. Mr Chidambaram and Mr Raja are answerable. It was not explained why in 2008 when the market was buoyant, the 2001 market price was fixed for 2G licences.
