New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) The Supreme Court Friday issued notice to George Fernandes' wife Leila Kabir Fernandes over a petition filed by Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitley seeking visitation rights to the ailing former defence minister.

A bench of Justices P. Sathasivam and Ranjan Gogoi issued notice on Jaitley's petition challenging an earlier Delhi High Court order rejecting her plea of visitation rights.

Fernandes is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Jaitley is a close friend and political colleague of the socialist leader of yesteryears for the last three decades.

While giving Laila Kabir and others two weeks' time to respond to Jaitley's petition, the court declined to stay the operation of the high court order.

The high court by its April 17 order had declined Jaitley's plea for visiting the ailing socialist leader. The high court declined her plea on the ground that she had no legal standing to seek visitation rights for Fernandes.
