The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in connection to a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that challenged the decision taken by the Madras High Court to quash the 1991 gifts case that involved the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo.
The case is connected with the Rs 2.09-crore gifts case that was registered against the Chief Minister in 1996.
The alleged offence was committed during Jayalalithaa´s tenure as the Chief Minister in 1991.
Earlier in 2011, the Madras High Court had dismissed the chargesheet filed by the CBI in 2006 because of the delay in filing it.
The apex court has given Jayalalithaa four weeks time to reply to the notice.
