The Supreme Court on Thursday will hear former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma's petition that challenged President Pranab Mukhrjee's election to the titular post.
He has urged the Supreme Court in his petition to set aside Mukherjee´s election on the ground that he was holding an office of profit on the day he filed his nomination.
Sangma said in his petition that the former Union Finance Minister was not qualified for the Presidential post as he was holding the office of chairman of Kolkata-based Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) when he filed the nomination for the election.
Mukherjee reportedly field an affidavit in the apex court and refuted Sangma´s claims.
Pertinently, Sangma contested the Presidential election against Mukherjee earlier this year where the former Union Finance Minister defeated the tribal leader.
