Jalandhar: Eleven children were killed when a school bus collided with a truck in a village in the district on Monday morning.
The mishap took place at 8am in Jaheer village when the bus of Akal Academy was taking students to the school, Jalandhar Rural SP (D) Rajinder Singh said.
While seven children died on the spot, four succumbed to injuries in a hospital, he said.
Police say the bus collided with a truck laden with bricks.
Police officer Santokh Singh said the crash happened as the children were on their way to school on the outskirts of Jalandhar.
India has the world's deadliest roads, with more than 110,000 people killed every year. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.
