Security has been beefed up across Uttar Pradesh as the Hindi version of Kamal Hassan's controversial film 'Vishwaroopam' hit the theatres in the state on Friday.
Officials geared up vigilance and security to deal with any untoward incident that might erupt following protests from the Muslim organizations against the film.
"It has been decided that the film will be released, we have deployed extra force everywhere to avoid any unpleasant incident," said Arun Kumar, Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Law and Order.
However, the moviegoers in the cities like Lucknow and Kanpur were seen flocking to their local theatres despite controversies surrounding the film.
"I feel that the film has been made for entertainment and that should not affect any community. Kamal Haasan is good actor and other than making nice films, he is also a patriot, so I have come to see the film," said Afzal, a local.
The Madras High Court had banned the Tamil version of the film in Tamil Nadu following the state government appeal, fearing law and order problems. (ANI)
