Russian Tennis star Maria Sharapova on Tuesday decided not to change her last name to 'Sugarpova' for the upcoming US Open.

"We ultimately decided against it," Maria´s agent Max Eisenbud told ESPN.

"Maria has pushed her team to do fun, out-of-the-box-type things to get the word out about Sugarpova," Eisenbud said.

Earlier media reports said the Tennis icon has applied to the Supreme Court of Florida for the two-week name change.

She decided to make the move to promote her candy brand, reports said.

"The 26-year-old Russian, a former world No 1, has asked about a ´quickie´ name-change through the Supreme Court of Florida, where she has a base, and would revert to Sharapova after the tournament," The Times reported.

Sharapova founded the Sugarpova company in 2012.
