Japanese multinational manufacturer of electronics Sharp introduced a new range of air purifiers equipped with their patented 'plasmacluster' ion technology for the Indian market a little over ten months back.

According to Sharp India, the new range of air purifiers has been a quiet achiever for the Japanese company.

Sharp also announced its achievement of 5 crore satisfied users till June 2012 for plasmacluster ion technology, the highest in the world for air purification.

According to analyst TechSci Research, Sharp enjoys a competitive edge when it comes to air purifiers in India and the air purifier market will reach Rs 560 crores by the year 2016.

Sharp Business Systems India Limited's Regional Manager - Neelesh Aghnihothri said, "Purifiers are the need of the day, as we buy Mineral Water, RO or even better water filters. For what? To save us from some petty diseases like upset stomach etc. But what about airborne diseases? H1N1, Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Tuberculosis, and so many others are killing millions in India every year."

Aghnihothri said, "We are blissfully ignoring this, while taking 20,000 odd breaths every day! Just consider, 1.34 million premature deaths occurred in 2008 as per WHO from respiratory diseases! "

According to Sharp India, plasmacluster technology can best be described as the next generation of air purifiers.

"They work by using an electrical discharge to create both Positive and Negative ions, which are then surrounded in water and then released into the air. Sharp says this process can clean the air and surface from irritants including dust, fungi, viruses, pollen and mould etc.," company officials said.

Sharp has entered into a business tie up with Vishal Peripherals for promoting the products in their existing network.

Vikas Hisariya, the Managing Director of Vishal Peripherals said, "Vishal Peripherals, established in 2002, a point of time where the advent of computers began to change the way business would be conducted in future."

Hisariya said, "Having a young management at the helm was an advantage as it provided scope for new ideas, innovation and the ability to build the organization as well as develop and educate our customers at a time when the cost of computing was prohibitive."

"This is exactly what we wish to repeat in promoting a new concept like Air Purifiers. We are also planning someunique marketing and promotion programs backed by strong technical support," he added.

"Today, Vishal Peripherals has assumed a leadership role, having one of the strongest brand names in the Retail segment in Andhra Pradesh with an exemplary track record in terms of products on offer, customer centric integrity and a solid commitment to service" Hisariya noted.

According to Aghnihothri, "Sharp will undertake a number of live product demonstration during the festive season. This activity allows our staff to interact directly with consumers and get feedback as to the consumers needs - the overwhelming reaction has been very positive so far."

"Clearly there is a consumer need that is not currently being met by most Retailers. We will use the knowledge gained from consumers to further advance the penetration into this thinly tapped market" he added.

"The plasmacluster ion air purifiers is an example of Sharp's effort to keep supplying the market with unique and one of its kind features and benefits," he said.
