The Shiv Sena has called for bandh in Palghar on Wednesday to protest against action taken against the policemen in the Facebook arrest case.
On Tuesday, the Thane superintendent of police and Palghar police station sub-inspector were suspended for not obeying their seniors´ orders while arresting two girls for a Facebook post on the late Sena chief Bal Thackeray.
The two girls were arrested in Maharashtra´s Thane district over a Facebook comment that questioned the shutdown in Mumbai for Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray´s funeral. The girls were later granted bail but the action triggered a nationwide outrage.
The charges against them are yet to be dropped.
This state government´s decision of the state government came a day after the Bombay High Court transferred the judicial magistrate who had sent the girls to judicial custody.
Maharashtra home minister R.R. Patil said the policemen were suspended for disobeying the orders of the IG of Konkan zone.
