New Delhi, Sept 13 (IBNS) India has condemned the attack on U.S. Consulate in Libya's Benghazi that killed four officials, including US ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens.

"We are deeply shocked at the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. India strongly condemns the violent acts which unfortunately resulted in the death of the US Ambassador to Libya and other officials," said an official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

"Foreign Secretary Shri Ranjan Mathai has spoken to the US Ambassador in Delhi and conveyed our condolences at the tragic loss of life," he said.

Stevens was among the four officials who were killed when militiamen attacked the US consulate in Libyan city of Benghazi on Tuesday night, reports said on Wednesday.

The armed mob attacked the US consulate to protest against US-produced film that allegedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
