The politics of violence is not an unknown phenomenon in Tamil Nadu, although it had not been unleashed for many years now.
However, that happy state of affairs may not last if the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) succeeds in its agenda.
On April 25, the Vanniyar-backed party cut a sorry figure when the PMK cadre, headed to their annual Vanniyar Sangam conference, were involved in violent clashes with Dalits at Marakkanam in Villupuram district.
A number of them also climbed up the ancient Shore Temple at Mahabalipuram, with complete disregard for the heritage monument.
