Six injured as NC, PDP supporters clash in Anantnag

Anantnag: Six persons were injured today in clashes between the supporters of ruling National Conference and opposition Peoples Democratic Party which broke out at several places in this constituency during the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, official sources said.

Three persons were injured when supporters of the two parties attacked each other with bamboos and stones, at Watihal-Qazigund, 30 kms from here, the sources said.

Two others were injured in a group clash between the two parties at Laren-Ganjipora in Mattan, 12 kms from here.

One of the injured, Ghulam Rasool Dar of the PDP, has been rushed to Srinagar for treatment, they added.

Another person was injured in a clash at Gopalpora in Mattan area, they said.

Minor clashes between supporters of the two parties were also reported from Chawatrigam and Brarzu in Kulgam, Adilach-Muqam in Pahalgam and Sarnal Payeen, Qadipora and Qazipora here but there was no report of any casualty.

The clashes, however, have no impact on the polling which was going on smoothly, the sources asserted.

Meanwhile, Ishtiaq Ahmad Bhat, polling agent of BSP candidate Nissar Ahmad Khan, alleged that NC MLC Altaf Ahmad Kaloo beat him up at a booth in Jammu-Pahalgam region.

"Kaloo also took away my identity card and authority letter," he said.
