New Delhi, Sept 20 (IBNS) Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken on Tuesday gave Arjuna Award 2011 to Somdev Kishore Devvarman for his outstanding achievements in Tennis.
Devvarman could not attend the ceremony held on 29th August to receive the Arjuna Award from the President as he was taking part in the US Open at that time.
Devvarman won Gold medal in Men's Singles at Commonwealth Games 2010, Gold medal in Men's Singles at Asian Games 2010 and Gold medal in Men's Doubles partnering with Shri Sanam Singh.
He was member of the Indian team that won Davis Cup 2009 putting India back in the World Group after defeating hosts South Africa.
He was also a member of the Indian team that won Davis Cup 2010 by defeating Brazil.
He reached the career high singles ranking of 71 (April 2011), the highest by any Indian in the ATP rankings since Leander Paes' 73 in August 2008.
