Surajkund, Haryana, Nov 9 (IBNS): Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi on Friday stressed on the need for creating stronger coordination between the government and her party.

"There is need for stronger coordination between party and government," Gandhi said in her opening remarks at the Congress party´s brain storming session at Surajkund in Haryana.

"Discussions take place between the two. But it is only when really big decisions need to be taken....sometimes party is unhappy with decisions taken by the government. Both views have to be balanced," she said.

She said ´those in the government´ should work hard to accomplish promises that were mentioned in the 2009 election manifesto.

Gandhi said the government took tough decisions and reasons behind taking it should be ´clearly´ explained to the people.

"Our government took some tough decisions. It is our job to tell the people of the country very clearly that why such decisions were taken," she said.

The Congress leadership is meeting at Surajkund to chalk out the future path of the criticism-hit party.

With price rise and scams roiling the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), the first family of the Congress sent a message of austerity to the party workers and people by taking a bus, the mode of transportation of the ´aam aadmi´, to Surajkund, the venue of the Congress brain storming session in Haryana.

While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh went to the venue on his own, the Gandhis and other senior Congress leaders travelled in buses, reports said.

All the leaders met at 24, Akbar Road, the Congress headquarters, on Friday morning and left for the meeting venue in bus. Seventy delegates are attending the meeting.

The message apparently was to bond with the common people and not show off large convoys of cars with red beacons and sirens.

Reports said the current political scenario, economic issues and implementation of the party´s manifesto would be discussed at the meet.

According to reports, the Prime Minister will start a discussion on the state of the country´s economy. Thereafter, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram will start a debate on the economic situation.
