Maloy Krishna Dhar was born in Kamalpur in East Bengal, and migrated to India after partition. He worked as a lecturer before joining Amrita Bazaar Patrika as a junior reporter. He joined the IPS in 1964 and was permanently seconded to the Intelligence Bureau. During his service, Dhar saw action in the Northeast, Punjab and Kashmir. He also handled delicate internal political and counterintelligence assignments. After retiring in 1996 as joint director, he took to freelance journalism and writing books. His latest book Train to India: Memories of Another Bengal is a personal record of the horror of partition - the never-before chronicled tale of East Pakistan.
