New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) A traffic policeman and two others were injured after being hit by a speeding truck whose driver was trying to escape prosecution here, police said Sunday. The vehicle was impounded after it caught fire and the driver deserted it.
The victims were hit by the truck Saturday night in north Delhi at two different spots, about five km apart.
"The truck bearing a Haryana registration number first hit traffic constable Pankaj when he tried to stop it for checking in Alipur area in north Delhi," said senior police officer.
Two policemen chased the truck on motorcycle but could not catch up with the speeding vehicle, he said.
While trying to escape, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into an autorickshaw, a car and a motorcycle, injuring two people, on the Outer Ring Road in Burari area, around five km from Alipur, police said.
After it hit the three vehicles, the truck caught fire and the errant driver jumped out and fled from the scene. Two fire tenders doused the truck fire, police said.
