A senior official of India's force is paramilitary Sashastra Seema Bal said that the are fully prepared to combat any situation on the border, and added that the aim was to create an environment of safety and security.
The Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Arun Choudhury, who was visiting Kalimpong, said the force is alert and fully aware about activities taking place in the border areas.
"In matters of national security, whatever proceedings are being undertaken by China on the Indo-Nepal border, it is not going to have any impact on our internal security. As far as what they (China) are doing at the border, we have complete information and are fully prepared to combat any situation," said Choudhury.
Choudhury told the villagers that he was aware about their problems and added that the paramilitary force would take steps to ensure that they lead healthy lives.
"The SSB is present in the border areas of Indo Nepal and Indo Bhutan and our main aim is to work in cooperation with people living in these border villages and create an atmosphere of security," said Choudhury.
Choudhury added that the paramilitary force had started developing technology to ensure that their focus remained on criminal activities on the border and their reserve battalions were ready to move to any part of the country if there was threat to national security.
The Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO) a terrorist organisation in the area had recently started gaining strength in the area and the SSB was monitoring their activities.
The SSB presently guards 1751 km of the Indo-Nepal border and 699 km of Indo-Bhutan border. (ANI)
