Panaji, Jan 6 (IBNS) The central forces will take charge of security along Goa boundaries to thwart possible bid to smuggle fake currencies within the state till the completion of the poll counting on March 4.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday ordered that Border Security Force and Special Forces maintain extra vigil along the border and check vehicles entering the state.

Speaking at a press meet, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan said every attempt will be made to push in huge consignments of counterfeit notes.

"Distribution of fake currency among the electorates is a major possibility as the elections are fast approaching... We are taking all precautions to prevent any illegality," Navti said.

The ECI has also asked the state excise department to maintain surveillance to check any misuse of liquor 'which may be used in influencing voters during the ensuing elections'.

Reacting to harassment complaint made by Goa Liquor Traders Association against an excise inspector at Mapusa, Navti said the matter has been referred to the excise department for deciding appropriate action.

The complainants accused the excise inspector of constantly threatening to book them in the guise of code of conduct. The inspector is also accused of illegally seized bottles of Foreign Made Indian Liquor.

Speaking on the recruitment scam, Navti said explanation has been sought from three departments.

In the case of health department, ECI's flying squad confiscated pre-dated appointment letters and 'acceptance letters' in a raid yesterday. The department went ahead with the recruitment despite the code of conduct in force.

The state is gearing up for general assembly elections on March 3. ECI will enroll 15,000 voters in the age group of 18 and 19 years by January 12.
