Panaji, Jan 6 (IBNS) The central forces will take charge of security along Goa boundaries to thwart possible bid to smuggle fake currencies within the state till the completion of the poll counting on March 4.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday ordered that Border Security Force and Special Forces maintain extra vigil along the border and check vehicles entering the state.
Speaking at a press meet, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan said every attempt will be made to push in huge consignments of counterfeit notes.
"Distribution of fake currency among the electorates is a major possibility as the elections are fast approaching... We are taking all precautions to prevent any illegality," Navti said.
The ECI has also asked the state excise department to maintain surveillance to check any misuse of liquor 'which may be used in influencing voters during the ensuing elections'.
Reacting to harassment complaint made by Goa Liquor Traders Association against an excise inspector at Mapusa, Navti said the matter has been referred to the excise department for deciding appropriate action.
