Srinagar, May 11 (IBNS) Suspected militants gunned down a civilian in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said on Saturday.
Lassipora village resident Mudassir Ahmed Mir was reportedly shot dead by suspected militants around 11pm on Friday.
"According to Mir´s neighbours, he had came home around 9pm post his evening prayers and finished dinner when some men, suspected to be militants, called him outside and shot him," said a police official.
One of Mir´s neighbours, Imtiyaz Ahmed, said: " His murder came as a shock for us as he has no enmity with anyone. He is the father of three kids and is an innocent man. Why should anyone kill him?"
Mir´s funeral was held on Saturday morning.
The police said they have registered a case and have started investigations.
In a separate incident, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was killed by suspected militants in Pulwama on Friday afternoon.
"ASI Farooq Ahmad Sheikh was shot and critically injured when he was on duty at Rajpora chowk, Pulwama this afternoon. He later succumbed to his injuries," the J&K Police said on its website.
"ASI Farooq Ahmad hailed from Batamaloo area of Srinagar and is survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons. A guard of honour and wreath laying ceremony was held for the departed officer at Pulwama," the Jammu and Kashmir Police said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir visited the family of Sheikh at their residence at Batamaloo on Friday evening.
"IGP paid his condolences to the bereaved family and offered prayers for the departed officer. IGP was accompanied by DIG Central Kashmir Mr. S A Mujtaba and SSP Srinagar Mr. S A H Bukhari and other senior police officers," said the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
