India continued their poor run in Australia as the home side defeted them by an innings and 68 runs in the second Test match of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), here on Friday.
Indian were all out at 400 runs in the second innings.
G Gambhir (83), SR Tendulkar (80) and VVS Laxman (66) tried to give some resistance to the Australian bowlers.
But the home side bowled well to dismiss the Indian batsmen at crucial junctures in the innings to keep the match in their grips.
R Ashwin scored a fighting 62 runs at the end of the innings.
BW Hilfenhaus picked up five wickets in the innings and remained the pick of the Australian bowlers.
India had scored 191 runs in the first innings while Australia had scored a massive 659 runs in their first innings to give the visitors a tough challenge in the match.
Skipper Michael Clarke had scored a brilliant unbeaten 329 runs innings in the match that helped the home side in piling up a huge lead of 468 runs.
