Tagore art and sculpture exhibition in Kolkata

Kolkata: After Munich and Berlin, its time for art lovers of Kolkata to witness the acclaimed art and sculpture exhibition on Rabindranath Tagore "Enduring Legacy".

Akar Prakar, an open-air art gallery, and the Indian Council of Cultural Relation (ICCR) have jointly organised the exhibition in Kolkata.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Reena Lath, CEO of Akar Prakar, Kolkata on Saturday.

The exhibition brings together a diverse range of artists to gauge the impact of Tagore's legacy in India and the rest of the world.

Earlier, the same exhibition was held in Munich and Berlin.

The exhibition has paintings and sculptures of 13 artists from Bengal, which reflects the view of today's generation of painters and sculptures on Rabindranath.

Samir Roy, one of the painters, explaining his work said, "I got influenced by the songs of Rabindranath and took it as my subject. I did the paintings in an abstract way by using metal, bottle, cotton thread, charcoal on paper board."



The artists of the exhibition upheld Tagore's views of nature, nationalism, gender, education, songs, poetry and has placed them in a contemporary context.

Reena Lath said, "There are so many aspects of Tagore that people have looked into. In Germany, when I presented Tagore, I got an amazing response there."

"Tagore is still alive within us and we have grown up with it and no one can escape him," she added.

The exhibition was showcased to give tribute to Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary.

The exhibition starts from Feb 18 and will continue till Mar 5 at ICCR.
