Taipei WTC opens office in Kolkata

The Taipei World Trade Centre (TWTC) on Tuesday announced the launch of its third office in India located at the heart of the city on Park Street.

The city office will be the third in India after Mumbai and Chennai and 58th in the world.

Gee San, the Vice Chairman of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TETDC) along with Frank Tu, the director Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) were present at the event.

Founded in 1970, the non-profit trade promotion organization in Taiwan and jointly sponsored by the government, industry associations and several commercial organizations, TAITRA assists Taiwan businesses and manufacturers with reinforcing their international competitiveness and in coping with the challenges they face in foreign markets.



According to TWTC officials, Kolkata is experiencing a boom in residential, commercial and IT development has become the chosen destination of TAITRA.

Furthermore, a continuous increase in the demand of trade opportunities, its proximity to the North Eastern region of India and to promote the growing eastern market were the key rationale of setting up operations in the city, TWTC stated.

TAITRA boasts a well-coordinated trade promotion and information network of over 1200 trained specialists stationed throughout its Taipei headquarters, four local branch offices in Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung and over 50 overseas branch offices worldwide.

To strengthen investment between Taiwanese and Indian companies and also fostering key socioeconomic relations will be the primary focus of the TWTC.

The Centre asserted that the city liaison office will be responsible for developing business opportunities, gathering market intelligence, assisting trade education,gathering market intelligence, assisting trade education and enhancing bilateral trade exchanges bilateral trade exchanges between two countries.
