Mumbai: The champagne bottles were uncorked at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday night, but the bubbly flowed till the early hours of Sunday at the iconic Taj Mahal hotel as the Indian players drenched themselves to celebrate their World Cup triumph.

Sachin Tendulkar was the first to uncork the champagne bottle as the team lifted the World Cup trophy to spark fireworks at the stadium.

Tendulkar, who was the cynosure of all eyes, drank some champagne while taking the victory lap at the stadium. After some pestering by Gautam Gambhir, Tendulkar passed on the bottle and soon the whole team was drenched in it.

India in carnival mode

Yuvraj Singh gave a wily smile when commentator Ravi Shastri asked him whether he would be the official bartender at the World Cup party.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said the team was trying to savour the moment.

'We are not in our senses. Once we go back to the hotel we will be in our real senses. We are just trying to live the moment,' said Dhoni at the post-match press conference.

Proudest moment of my life, says Tendulkar

Asked if he was drunk, Dhoni burst out laughing and said: 'Trust me, I didn't have a single sip of champagne.'
