Seventeen-year-old Roshan died after falling into an open well in the industrial hub of Howrah on the outskirts of Kolkata city on Monday.
Roshan fell into a well, believed to be at least 30 feet deep, on Sunday afternoon, on a rainy day.The inclement weather posed a major hindrance to the efforts to rescue him. Roshan's body was pulled up with the help of a rope.
Meanwhile, West Bengal's Minister for Disaster Management, Javed Khan, said he was sorry that the teenager could not be saved but he appreciated the rescue workers for their tremendous work.
"We are very sorry for Roshan Ali that we could no save his life. But definitely we can say that tremendous and marvellous job has been done by the whole fire brigade, disaster management people, the village council members, the local police and everyone participated and the local well diggers. I thank them on behalf of the government; we would definitely give them certificates and honour them. They have definitely done a marvellous job," said Khan.
Despite all coordinated efforts by the personnel of Indian Army, police and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), her life could not be saved since the rescue operations had to encounter rocks in their endeavour to rescue the hapless baby. (ANI)
