Terror attack on Israeli diplomat, BJP draws similarity with German bakery blast

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday added a new twist to yesterday's terror attack in Delhi on an Israeli diplomat, and drew similarities with 2010 German bakery blast suspecting that the same group could be behind the blast.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that blast on Monday was carried out on the second anniversary of the Pune bakery blast, which claimed eight lives.

"Yesterday was also the second anniversary of the Pune German bakery bomb blast. I am from Pune and the people of Pune are still angry over the fact that no militant is yet to be caught for the attack. Hence it is also possible that those who conducted the Pune bomb blast were also behind yesterdays attacks," he told the media here.

Javadekar also criticized Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram for not preventing the terror attack, and said nine militant attacks have occurred in India during his ministership.

Strongly condemning the attack on an Israeli diplomat's wife yesterday, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had earlier in the day said that a very well-trained bomber had carried out the attack and added that he is not pointing a finger at anyarticular group or organisation at the moment.

"A very well-trained bomber has committed this attack. We have reason to believe that the target was the Israeli diplomat's wife. The explosion happened within seconds after the device was attached to the Innova car, Chidambaram told the media here.

At 3.16 p.m. on Monday, an Innova car from Israeli embassy burst into flames after a biker planted an explosive on its rear and sped off. Two passengers from a nearby Indica were also affected by the blast.

Police had put up barricades on the road leading to the blast site and vehicles going in and out of the hospital where the injured are being treated were being thoroughly checked.

The perpetrator reportedly used the same method of attack, detonating an explosive device that had been attached magnetically to the vehicle that was used to assassinate an Iranian nuclear scientist in Tehran last month.

Indian investigators said they will probe all potential leads from home grown militant outfits to foreign groups during the course of their investigations. (ANI)
