Mumbai, Nov 24 (IBNS) The girl who along with her friend faced arrest for her Facebook post against a Mumbai shutdown over the funeral of late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said she was happy with the support of people and media and does not regret for her comment.

"I really appreciate and thank media and people," said the girl speaking to media.

"What I wrote was my opinion. I do not regret it, but what has happened should not have happened," she said.

The two girls were arrested in Maharashtra´s Thane district over a Facebook comment that questioned the shutdown in Mumbai for Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray´s funeral. The girls were later granted bail but the action triggered a nationwide outrage.

Action could follow against the cops who arrested them since a police inquiry by an Inspector General found that there was no rationale behind the arrests.

IG Sukhwinder Singh of Konkan Range has prepared his report on the case and said the charges should be dropped immediately and recommended action against cops responsible.

Nine people were earlier arrested for vandalizing a hospital of the uncle of a girl, who, along with a friend, was arrested on Monday last their Facebook post.

Alleged Shiv Sainiks had vandalized the hospital after they saw the online post.

The girl´s post said instead of shutting down Mumbai for Thackeray´s death, "We should remember Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev - two martyrs of India's independence." The police had arrested another girl for ´liking´ the post.

The arrests were made under Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The girls were arrested after a Shiv Sena leader filed a complaint against them.

Thackeray died on Saturday after battling ailments for days, ending an era in Maharashtra and national politics in course of which many opposed to his functioning struggling to come to terms with his brand of firebrand nationalism. He was 86.
