Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has supported the Kerala police action against 111 netizens for posting and sharing 'defamatory' comments against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien in relation to the Suryanelli gang rape case, said reports.

According to reports, 111 people have been arrested by the the Kerala Police cyber cell, which had filed cases against the alleged cyber offenders acting on a complaint filed by Kerala Mahila Congress leader Bindu Krishna.

In her complaint, Krishna said she was also targeted in these posts.

"FB case in Kerala not about Kurien but abt (about) libellous comments re:Mahila Congress leader who defended him. Issue is defamation, not free speech," Tharoor tweeted last night.

Tharoor demanded action against the cyber posts as he felt it was a clear case of defamation.

Bindu Krishna told media that she had submitted her complaint to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who then forwarded it to the Cyber cell for investigation.

According to Krishna the FB post remarks were "highly defamatory" with an attempt to "tarnishing" her image as a woman for backing Kurien.

Her stand in support of Kurien was merely the stand of the party, she had added.
