A for anarchy...

This seems to be the core principle of the Aam Aadmi Party and that’s what keeps getting it into the news. They seem to be against each and every pillar of democracy in modern India and they will always be controversial because of that.

B for Bhushan on Kashmir...

Before the AAP was formed, Prashant Bhushan had expressed his opinion that it was OK for Kashmir to go to Pakistan. After the party came into existence he continued with his controversial statements calling for a referendum over the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

C for Congress support...

Before the Delhi polls, Arvind Kejriwal swore by his children that he wouldn’t take Congress support. But he later did take it. Then he broke free and quit as Chief Minister. Then he talked of forming the government again. Then the Congress refused. Then he asked for fresh polls. Then...

D for dharnas and darbars...

The master of the dharna, Kejriwal continued to astound everyone when he went on a dharna as a sitting Chief Minister. His janata durbars were also a big disaster and he had to cancel them.

E for electricity and water...

Soon after taking power, Kejriwal reduced power tariffs and gave free water. It was a political stunt as that did not solve the basic problems of water and power shortages in Delhi and he quit soon after.

F for FDI...

The Sheila Dixit government allowed FDI in multi-brand retail and Kejriwal reversed that decision. This is precisely the kind of nonsense that brings about business instability in this country.

G for Gujarat visit...

Kejriwal grandly visited Gujarat for a few days and that was enough for him to expose 12-years of misrule in Gujarat. He tried to gate-crash into Gandhinagar and was thwarted. Then after railing against Narendra Modi’s use of private jets, he took one himself!

H for hospital vigilantism...

AAP volunteers started conducting vigilante raids in hospitals checking what the doctors were doing and this was a sign of things to come.

I for Ilmi and Ashutosh...

Ashutosh and Shazia Ilmi led a protest and surrounded BJP headquarters. Stone-pelting followed as a descendant of Mahatma Gandhi looked on helplessly.

J for jail...

Kejriwal finally got his wish and went to Tihar jail. However in the end it was not over corruption or fixing the BJP’s Nitin Gadkari, but refusing to sign a personal bond and paying Rs 10,000 and earning the ire of the judiciary.

K for Khirki and krantikaari...

Somnath Bharti’s midnight raid where African nationals were humiliated was an absolute low. Then there was the “bahut krantikaari” video showing fixing between Kejriwal and a news channel. It got close to 2.5 million views on YouTube.

L for Left...

The AAP presents to be a new movement with new ideas but it is nothing but a neo-Leftist outfit.

M for model code of conduct...

The AAP leaders who railed against chargesheeted politicians ended up having many cases against them including multiple violations of the EC’s model code of conduct.

N for Naxalism...

There are many sympathisers of the Naxal movement in the AAP ranks and some even invited them to join the AAP.

O for open allegations...

It is amazing how Kejriwal keeps so many open allegations against leaders of so many parties without showing any proof whatsoever.

P for power connections cutting...

We should have seen it coming when Kejriwal personally went and cut the lines of power meters across Delhi in the very early days.

Q for Queen Sonia...

If the Congress has ruined the country for 10 years, then why are all the attacks against Modi? Why has Sonia Gandhi been spared? It’s a controversial stand indeed.

R for Reliance and crony capitalism...

He is an Ambani agent. He is an Adani agent. Crony capitalism. Paid media. Blah blah blah...

S for swear words...

During campaigning VJ Rajeev used quite abusive language as Shazia laughed. Somnath also said that he wanted to spit on BJP leader Arun Jaitley’s face.

T for Twitter power...

Kejriwal and the AAP are the superstars of Twitter. They get support and ridicule in equal measure.

U for U-turns...

Kejriwal is the master of the U-turn. A look at 10 of his best...

V for Varanasi...

Kejriwal was certain to win a Lok Sabha seat in Delhi but he ran away from that to lose in Varanasi and in the process getting tonnes of publicity.

W for washroom...

During the January dharna, Bharti used a ladies toilet even as female journalists were kept waiting! Big or small, there are no laws for the AAP.

X for the unknown...

Nobody knows what the Kejriwal is going to do next. This surprise factor has made him the master of media coverage.

Y for Yogendra Yadav...

The suave sane leader finally got a social media trend of his known when photos of him sleeping on the ground during custody led to a flurry of memes.

Z for zero...

All this drama. All this media coverage. All this hope. And in the end leaving Punjab, the AAP got zero seats in each and every State of India in the 2014 general elections.
