Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been in the news non-stop ever since the Godhra riots of 2002.
With Modi set to play a key role in the upcoming 2014 General Elections, it seems unlikely that he’ll be out of the headlines.
A look at the A to Z of the most controversial man in India right now...
A for Amit Shah
Modi’s right hand man had to resign in 2010 over encounter killings. Detractors are trying to reach Modi though Shah. Shah is expected to play a key role in the 2014 elections and the man in charge of building the BJP fortunes in the State of Uttar Pradesh.
B for Bhatt
IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has levelled the most high-profile allegations against Modi. He claims that Modi asked police officials to let Hindus vent their anger against the Muslims and even filed an affidavit against Modi. So far all that has come to nothing.
C for Congress
For the Congress, Modi has emerged as enemy No. 1. There are mixed reactions to Modi within the Congress. Some see him as their biggest threat, while others think that Modi’s polarization of the electorate in 2014 will divert attention from the economy and the many scams of the UPA.
D for Development
Nobody has played the development card like Modi. While Chief Ministers SM Krishna and N Chandrababu Naidu perished after one term, Modi has won three successive terms. While his supporters laud development in Gujarat, his detractors call it a PR exercise and say that his development is not inclusive.
E for Elections of 2014
There is no doubt that Modi is the largest figure in the upcoming elections. Never has been there so much drama over a “potential future PM”. Sonia Gandhi is still behind the scenes, Rahul Gandhi looks reluctant and Manmohan Singh is a spent force.
