Two young lives have been lost over the course of the last week due to sheer negligence. The little girl had fallen into a borewell on June 20th, just a day after her birthday. A rescue mission which comprised the Army, Police, National Security Guards, Gurgaon civic authorities, Gurgaon and Delhi Metro Rail lasted 86 hours and came to a tragic end on Sunday when Mahi’s slightly decaying body was pulled out.
She is said to have died within 3 hours of falling into the borewell due to asphyxiation.
Her distraught parents are now blaming the authorities for not doing enough to save their little girl. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has sought a report from the Water Resources Ministry about abandoned bore wells. A magisterial probe has also been ordered into Mahi’s case.
