My Inspiration
It has been more than a month since i started TreeCycling. Every day
has been a challenge, everyday has been a conquest, everyday was new
and everyday was unusual and I wake up everyday and look forward to
more. This journey till date has been fantastic. and will be etched in
my mind's eye till I fade into eternity.
I cycled for almost 3100 kms and I have another 1400 more to do. I met
a range of people - farmers, students, school children, 'babas'
(priests/god men/shamans), policy makers, journalists, beggars, truck
drivers, school children, child labourers and so on. I spoke to them,
about their lives, excahanged views about issues that mattered, about
the environment and I shared mine with them. Let me tell you - every
day has been an inspiration.
I want to share two stories with you today
Guruvayoor - 5:00 pm. Velmurugan was a 65 year old man. I met him in
Guruvayoor. It was obvious that he was poor and he had no food to eat.
He struck a conversation with me and when I had explained the concept,
he hugged me and said, I will plant two trees - even if I were to skip
a meal.
Agra - 8:30 pm - Santosh is an 8 year old boy who works in a Dhaba. He
gets paid Rs400 per month and works from 6:00 am till 2:00 am (yes
thats right). He said he will take time out and plant two trees.
This made me feel that this effort was really worth it. I have no
doubt in my mind - they will honour their commitment. I have a great
deal of respect for them and they inspire me.
More than anything else, every day has been an inspiration.
Please plant for the planet.
