The Kolkata Police's Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday said they have arrested three top Maoist leaders in the city.
Arrested Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Kolkata city committee secretary Abhishek Mukherjee, who was reportedly a close associate of deceased Maoist leader Koteshwar Rao or Kishenji, was arrested along with Sunil Mandal and Subhas Roy from Tala area of Kolkata on Tuesday.
They were produced before a Kolkata court on Wednesday and were remanded to seven days´ police custody.
Roy was from the Maoists' central technical committee.
The police said they recovered two firearms, including one semi-automatic gun, from the rebels.
The police said they also recovered Maoist literatures from them.
There were rumours that Mukherjee was earlier killed during an encounter.
