Dharamsala, Oct 21 (IANS) Seven films on the lives of Tibetans will be showcased this week in this Himachal Pradesh town that has been home to thousands of Tibetan exiles, an event organiser said here Sunday.

"The three-day fest will begin with the screening of a documentary on the ongoing self-immolations in Tibet," event organiser Lobsang Wangyal told IANS.

He said the 30-minute film, "The Burning Question", directed by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), shows the grim situation in Tibet which leads the Tibetans to take such a drastic action to express their desperation.

He said the Free Spirit Film Festival 2012, the eighth in series, would also showcase "Marley", whose director Kevin MacDonald quietly came here and filmed the love and craze that the people in McLeodganj, a suburb of Dharamsala where the Tibetan exiles live, have for music legend Bob Marley.

The other documentaries include "Journey of a Dream" by Shenpenn Khymsar.

It represents a new generation of Tibetans, talking and reaching out to the world.

"The idea of the film festival is to honour and promote Tibetan films and filmmakers and to encourage and inspire upcoming filmmakers," said Wangyal, who has made his name by organising the Miss Tibet beauty pageant here every year.

Exiled Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama fled Tibet along with many of his supporters in 1959 to escape Chinese occupation and took refuge in this Indian hill station.
