, (ANI): At least two persons were injured by a tiger near a village in Kushinagar.
Deputy Forest Officer R.P. Singh told reporters that the tiger entered human habitat in search of food and that there were no signs to indicate that he was a man-eater.
"This tiger has bitten two villagers. They have fallen ill now. There is no sign to indicate that the tiger is a man eater," he said.
The tiger attacked the two men as villagers were trying to scare it off by burning a fire.
The shocked villagers have been admitted to the district hospital for treatment after suffering deep cuts.
Incidents of wild animals in India straying into human settlements are on the rise due to the depleting forest and shortage of prey in the forest, which forces them out of their natural habitat and often results in attacks on humans.(ANI)
