Kolkata, Jan 8 (IBNS) Under attack for the ongoing political clashes in West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress on Tuesday said they would also take to the streets to protest the clashes and an ongoing "misinformation campaign" against their government by political opponents and media.
"From 10th to 18th January, we will take part in meetings and processions after 6 pm so that the protest does not inconvenience people," said West Bengal Industry Minister and senior TMC leader Partha Chattopadhayay after fresh clashes on Tuesday at Bhangore in South 24 Parganas where the roads turned into a battlefield and several vehicles were torched.
Some CPI-M men sustained bullet injuries in the clash.
Chattopadhayay said Arabul Islam, on whom the violence and an attack on former CPI-M minister Rezzak Mollah was blamed, was himself attacked today with arms by CPI-M men. He claimed that many Trinamool supporters were injured.
Arabul has got himself admitted in a hospital at Bhangore, reports said.
"There is a misinformation campaign going on against the state, started by the CPI-M, Congress and some media channels," said Chattopadhayay.
At least three CPI-M activists sustained bullet injuries when clashes broke out at Bhangore on Tuesday between the communists and the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Several vehicles were torched during the clashes which led to hospitalization of at least six CPI-M men, including some with bullet injuries, CPI-M leaders said.
Officials confirmed firing and arson and injuries to several people.
The CPI-M men were injured in the attack at a procession taken out by the communists to protest the attack on senior party leader and former minister Abdur Rezzak Mollah two days ago.
CPI-M alleged that the attack on them at Bhangore´s Bamanghata is again at the instance of Trinamool Congress leader Arabul Islam, a former MLA who earned notoriety for a series of anti social activities blamed on him.
CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty said at least 50 vehicles were torched, including many buses.
TV footage showed a series of vehicles (small trucks) in flames on the road.
Arabul Islam on the other hand said the CPI-M led the attacks and opened fire.
CPI-M said they would continue with processions, meetings and rallies till Arabul Islam is arrested for assaulting Rezzak Mollah.
