Ugyen Trinley Dorjee, the only major monk reincarnate recognised by both the Dalai Lama and China, Saturday presided over a three-day prayer service in this Himachal Pradesh town to mourn the execution of Tibetans by the Chinese Oct 20.

China has reportedly executed four Tibetans for taking part in the unrest in Lhasa last year.

The memorial service, which will go on till Nov 2, is being organised by 10 Tibetan organisations based in Dharamsala.

Three of those allegedly executed were identified as Lobsang Gyaltsen, 27, Loyak, 25, and Penkyi, 21.

The prayer service was attended by monks of the Namgyal monastery, Kirti monastery, Gyuto monastery, Tsechokling monastery and nuns of Dolmaling nunnery and the Gaden Choeling nunnery.

After India allowed exiled Tibetans to settle in India, the Dalai Lama has headed the Tibetan government-in-exile here.

The Dalai Lama fled his homeland in 1959, years after China took control of Tibet.

A total of 140,000 Tibetans live in exile -- over 100,000 of them in India. Over six million Tibetans live in Tibet.
