Hyderabad: The TRS on Friday night said its victory in the by-elections in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh be taken nothing less than a referendum on the separate statehood demand and asked the Centre to take immediate steps for formation of Telangana.
"People of Telangana have proved their desire for statehood of Telangana many a time, not once. In 1972, they elected 11 MPs out of 14. In 2004, you have seen. Everytime, they have proved. So, people's patience should not be tested.
TRS sweeps Telangana by-elections, Congress chief loses
"I humbly appeal to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi that please deliver Telangana state without further loss of time. The time has come. This verdict is nothing less than a referendum," TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao told reporters here.
He said it is the responsibility of democratically-elected governments to honour the desire of the people as "therwise, they will have to face the repercussions".
Replying to a query, Rao said he would wait for the Sri Krishna committee to submit its report as the party planned to strengthen its organisation.
