Rameswaram: A Naval ship and a barge towing it ran aground off nearby Pamban coast on Saturday following heavy wind, officials said.

The ship was being towed to Mumbai from Chennai by the barge when strong winds swept them close to the shores near the Pamban bridge connecting the island with mainland.

The tug ship continues to remain stuck dangerously close to the century-old Rail bridge.

Rescue work was on to pull back the ships but high tide was hampering the operations, officials said.
