New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) Two murder cases were registered in the killing of liquor and real estate baron Ponty Chadha and his younger brother Hardeep the day before over the possession of a farm here, police said Sunday.

The two cases were registered Sunday in connection with the killing of the two brother at a Chhatarpur farmhouse in south Delhi, said a police officer, adding that no arrests have been made yet.

"One case was registered under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and the arms act on a complaint filed by Ponty's friend Sukhdev Namdhari. The other case was registered by Hardeep's manager against Ponty's men on charges of tresspass and murder," said the officer.

The investigators Sunday revealed that the incident was triggered after Ponty Chadha arrived at farm no 42 to take its possession while Hardeep was away.

Police said Namdhari, a member of the Uttarkhand Minority Commission, was also present at the farmhouse with Ponty Chadha.

"Hardeep first fired at Ponty and his guard Narender Ahlawat. Then Namdhari's PSO (personal security officer), in a bid to save him, opened fire at Hardeep," said the police officer. After this, guards from both sides fired.

"Ponty suffered 12 bullet injuries while Hardeep received eight. Narender was also seriously injured and is still undergoing surgery," added the officer.

Investigators said they were looking into call records of Ponty Chadha and his brother to build the exact sequence of events that led to the incident.

"An initial probe has revealed that Ponty Chadha Saturday had reached the farm, where Hardeep had been residing, with 30−40 men. Ponty started locking the rooms being used by his brother," said the officer.

It was also alleged that Ponty asked his men to remove Hardeep's nameplate at the farmhouse entrance.

"Hardeep, who was in a meeting in Noida Saturday, got to know about Ponty's men taking possession of the farmhouse. He ended the meeting and reached the farmhouse where he argued with Ponty for a few minutes and then fired the first bullet," said the officer.

Hardeep first shot Ponty's guard Narender and then Ponty. He also fired at Ponty's vehicle with his licenced 9 mm pistol.

The officer said that the PSOs given to the brothers by Punjab Police were not involved in the firing.

He added that Sachin Tyagi, PSO of the commission member, opened fire in retaliation.

"Tyagi, who was one of those questioned, opened fire in self defence," added the officer.

Hardeep's family could not be contacted for comments.

Earlier in the day, post mortems conducted on liquor and real estate baron Ponty Chadha and his estranged brother Hardeep Singh Chadha revealed that the two received 20 bullets among them. Ponty's body underwent two autopsies, the second round exclusively for removing four bullets left behind earlier, police said.

The Saturday's firing was the second such incident at Ponty Chadha's residence. Gunshots were reported from his house in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district Oct 5.

The three Chadha brothers −− Ponty, Hardeep and Rajinder −− were jointly managing the Rs.6,000−crore Wave Inc, formerly Chadha Group, which has diverse business interests in from distilleries, multiplexes, sugar and paper mills.
