Jammu, April 16 (IANS) A joint army-police team rescued two local youth, abducted by militants in remote and mountainous area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, officials said Tuesday.

Kishtwar's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Thakur Kulbir Singh told media persons in Kishtwar, about 260 km northeast of Jammu, that family members of Ashiq Hussain, 25, and Akther Hussain, 21, both residents of Keshwan in the district came to a security force camp Friday to report about abduction of the two youth.

According to the report, some unknown gunmen came to their houses Thursday night and took Akther and Ashiq along with them by force to be recruited into militancy.

"Security forces fanned out in the the surrounding areas along with the dog squads. Not being able to sustain the pressure, the militants abandoned the two youth in the forest and they reached the security cordon on the edge of the mountainous forest," the SSP said.

He said that the Hizbul Mujahedeen (HM) which has been virtually wiped out of the Kishtwar district "is desperately trying to revive their cadre". A search is on to catch the militants involved in abduction, he added.
