Two of family killed in Delhi road accident

New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) Two women were killed and six other family members were injured when their car was hit by a speeding truck near Delhi High Court, police said Tuesday.

A total of eight people, including the two women, were travelling in an Innova car when it was hit by the truck in the Tilak Marg area Monday around 2 a.m.

The family, which belongs to Delhi's Chhatarpur, was returning from Amritsar when the collision occurred.

All the injured were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where the two women, identified as Premwati, 60, and Saroj Bala, 36, were declared dead while six other people were discharged from hospital after administering first aid.

The truck driver managed to escape from the spot just after the incident.

A case of negligent driving causing death has been registered and a hunt is on to nab the errant driver.

A police officer said the truck overturned over the car after the incident.

"Fire officers took more than an hour to take the victims out of the car," said the officer.
