New Delhi, May 16 (IANS) Delhi Police have arrested two railway staff for duping people with job offers in Indian Railways, a police official said Monday.

The police also seized from them railway recruitment application forms and counterfeit stamps of the Railway Recruitment Board and senior railway officials.

Om Pal Singh, 38, a helper in the divisional mechanical engineer's office, and Sandeep Kumar, 37, staff welfare inspector at Northern Railway's Connaught Place office, were arrested from their homes in east Delhi Sunday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand said.

The arrests followed a complaint from a Naya Bazar resident that he was duped of Rs.2.5 lakh by a railway employee who promised jobs to his relatives in the India Railways as ticket collectors.

'The total deal was for Rs.5 lakh, but the complainant suspected something fishy after paying Rs.2.5 lakh,' Chand said.

He said the two were running the racket since 2008.

The two used to pick up their targets during railway recruitment exams. The aspirants were asked to write the test as a formality and were promised jobs for Rs.5 lakh, the official said.

If the candidates passed the written test, the two claimed they fixed it with senior officers and if they did not, the two came up with some excuse and kept the money.

According to Chand, the two men have duped at least 100 people.
