Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal said the death toll in the flood-ravaged state could be above 10,000 even as rescue operations reached the final leg on Saturday.
"After travelling to different disaster-hit areas and gaining information from victims and other locals, I can say that death toll might be more than 10,000," Kunjwal told a TV channel.
Ravaged by natural calamity, the death toll in the north Indian state has touched 842 so far.
Rescue operations have reached the final leg on Saturday as sporadic showers were reported from Kedarnath town and Guptakashi village of the state.
Around 4,650 people are still missing in the state, reports said.
Amid fears of an epidemic outbreak, mass cremations of bodies continued in Kedarnath on Saturday.
Over 1,00,000 people have been rescued so far.
