At least four people were killed as a blizzard packing hurricane-force winds struck the northeastern United States on Saturday.

Around 700,000 homes and businesses were left without power and travel came to a grinding halt as the storm dumped more than 3 feet of snow across the Northeast.

Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts were the worst affected by the storm, media reports said.

More than 5,000 flights from some 60 airports were cancelled on Friday and Saturday, according to FlightAware, which tracks airline delays.

The blizzard brought back memories of Hurricane Sandy that hammered the same region last year, leaving over 100 people dead in the United States.
