A hardcore militant of anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was killed and a security personnel injured in a gun battle in Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday morning, officials said.
The encounter took place at Kordoiguri area under Doomdooma police station in the district in the wee hours of Friday.
Following a tip-off, a joint team of police and army had launched search operation in the area, where two militants of the outfit group were hiding.
"When the troops reached the area the militants, who took shelter in a house, started firing," a police official said.
"During the gun battle a hardcore militant was killed on the spot and a security personnel injured," police said.
Another militant had managed to flee from the encounter area.
The slain militant was identified as Raktajeet Hazarika alias Raktajeet Asom.
The injured security personnel was admitted to hospital.
Top police and army officials had rushed to the area and launched operation to nab the fled militant.
Two ULFA militants were killed in gun battle with security forces in upper Assam in the second week of this month and security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in possession of them.
Paresh Asom alias Paresh Baruah led ULFA is active in few districts of upper Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
The outfit group has asked all singers of Assam not to perform Hindi song, dance during the Rongali bihu functions, which started from April 15.
In a statement, ULFA said that, Hindi is an official language of India and not a national language.
