ULFA militants killed, arms recovered

Guwahati, Apr 8 (IBNS) : Two hardcore militants of anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam's Dibrugarh district on Monday morning, officials said.

Following a tip-off, a joint team of army and police had launched search operation at Bordoloni area under Khowang police station in the upper Assam district in the wee hours of Monday.

"Based on intelligence report, troops had launched search operation in the area, where four militants of the outfit group were hiding," a top police official said.

"When we reached the area, the militants had fired at the troops and forced us to exchange bullets," the police official said.

During the gun battle, two hardcore militants were killed on the spot and two others had managed to flee from the encounter spot.

The slain militants were yet to be identified.

Security forces had recovered one HK-33 rifle, five magazines, two bottle grenades, one 9 mm pistol, several rounds of live ammunition, and mobile phone handset.

Top police and army officials launched operation to nab the fleeing militant duo.

On April 7, the anti-talk and pro-talk faction group of ULFA had celebrated its 34th rising day.
