New York, March 18 (DPA) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Friday condemned the killing of over 50 people by Yemen's security forces, which used live ammunition to crack down protests.
'The secretary general is deeply troubled by the continuing violence and instability in Yemen,' UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said.
'He reiterates his call for utmost restraint and reminds the Government of Yemen that it has an obligation to protect civilians.'
Ban urged all sides to desist from provocative acts that might lead to further violence and called for inclusive dialogue on political, social and economic reform.
The Yemeni government declared a state of emergency following worsening clashes with the protesters.
