Union Home Secretary designate Anil Goswami visited Manipur to assess of the law and order situation in the state and also to familiarize himself with the situation.
"I have come here to familiarise myself with the situation. The state government and the Assam Rifles has been taking me around and giving me detailed presentations of the situation on the ground at various places. I have been trying to understand the situation, and when I go back, I will see what is required to be done," said Goswami.
During his maiden visit to the state, Goswami visited Ukhrul and Moreh on the border with Myanmar.
Later, he was briefed by officials of Assam Rifles about the security situation in border areas.
Goswami also visited the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge and Indo-Myanmar Friendship gate.
He interacted with various community leaders and civil society groups of Moreh.
His visit to the Northeast is seen as Centre's continuous efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the militancy-affected region. (ANI)
